Crystal Coast Southern Seafood Boil
Ingredients (Serves 6–8)
- 4–5 lbs large shrimp (shell-on, deveined)
- 2 lbs smoked sausage (Andouille preferred for more heat)
- 3 lbs small red potatoes
- 6 ears corn, halved
- 2 lbs snow crab legs (optional)
- 1–2 lbs clams or mussels (optional)
- 2 lemons, halved
- 1 large onion, quartered
- 6 cloves garlic, smashed
- 1 stick butter (for finishing)
- 1 (12 oz) beer — light lager or coastal NC lager
- Fresh parsley (optional garnish)
🔥 Boil Seasoning (Balanced Heat)
½ cup Old Bay seasoning
2–3 tbsp Cajun seasoning (increase to 3 tbsp for more kick)
2 tbsp salt
1 tbsp black pepper
1–2 tsp cayenne pepper (start with 1 tsp; add 2 tsp for noticeable heat)
2 bay leaves
1 small bottle liquid crab boil (optional but authentic)
🔥 Extra Kick Option (For Spice Lovers)
If you want a bold, Southern-style heat:
- Add 1 additional tbsp Cajun seasoning
- Add an extra ½–1 tsp cayenne
- OR add 1 sliced jalapeño to the boil base
Let the seafood soak 10–15 minutes after cooking to deepen the spice infusion.
Crystal Coast Hosting Tip
Because you're serving vacation families, you may want to:
- Keep the base seasoning moderate
- Offer melted “Cajun Butter” on the side (butter + Cajun seasoning + dash of cayenne)
That lets guests control their heat level without overwhelming kids.
